CRIME NEWS

  • Spencer Dillon Hamilton, 27, confessed to murdering his 87-year-old grandmother on March 30 by violently attacking her & was declared incompetent to stand trial, with plans to receive treatment.  WUSA9
  • A Montgomery County teen, Demonta King, 18, pleaded guilty to armed carjacking on Nov. 18, 2024 and to armed robbery on Aug. 26, 2022 after attacking a taxi driver with a knife and robbing another victim at gunpoint—sentencing is scheduled for June 16.  Montgomery Community Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mold and HVAC problems have troubled New Hampshire Estates Elementary in Montgomery County as parents report mold on tables, chairs, and walls and water seeping into basement classrooms. The school system says an environmental specialist is evaluating the building and will recommend repairs by the end of summer, though some parents want fixes before summer school starts on July 7.  WJLA

  • Lawmakers in Montgomery County approved measures for Eric's ID Law, which will add a butterfly logo to driver’s licenses to show hidden disabilities like autism after votes in the House and Senate. Meanwhile, a pesticide bill on PFAS chemicals died and a health education bill was reworked—leaving the House to decide whether to send them to the governor.  MoCo360
  • Montgomery County Public Schools will host an online career information session on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. on Zoom—supporting federal workers who lost their jobs.
