  • A drug rehab facility will be built next to a Montgomery County school (without prior community notification) and local residents are concerned about safety. Facility owners (who have not yet responded) have not answered questions from residents about the project.  WUSA9
  • In October, a celebrity charity golf tournament at Lakewood Country Club was held to raise funds for Community Bridges & Lady Lions, yet neither charity received any money. Five months later, both the charities and the venue remain unpaid as organizers work to account for the missing funds.  WTOP

  • Montgomery County teachers Krystal Putman and Rachel Savadow launched a 'Buy Nothing' online page to let educators, childcare providers and therapists share free classroom supplies amid budget cuts—receiving 500 followers on its first day to help ease funding shortages.  WJLA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Maryland Public Service Commission ruled that Washington Gas Light misled its customers by advertising natural gas as a clean energy option with no environmental impacts — claims that it costs one-third as much as electricity and saves acres of trees. The complaint was first filed in 2021 by the Maryland Office of People’s Counsel and later joined by the Sierra Club.  WJLA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Maryland health officials confirmed three measles cases this month linked to travel abroad but said the state remains protected by its over 96% vaccination rate. They urged residents to update vaccinations to guard younger children—experts warned rising vaccine hesitancy might increase future risk.  WTOP
