Rockville tenants are urging city leaders to pass a rent stabilization law as some apartments have seen rent increases up to 30% that are forcing teachers, firefighters, EMS, and federal workers to leave—residents say that high rents are destabilizing the community amid economic uncertainty. Supporters will share their concerns at the city council meeting on March 24 as they seek equal housing protections.

Lawmakers advanced a bill to name chromite the official state mineral after committee votes last Friday — a move that would join Maryland with over two dozen states if approved — and the measure now moves to the House where a vote is expected next week.
