CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County police are asking for public help identifying human remains found in Rock Creek Regional Park on March 1 when a hiker discovered a human skull and investigators later recovered additional bones and winter clothing (including a hat, jacket and pants) from a Hispanic male teen about 5-foot, 5-inch tall with no cause of death determined and rewards up to $10,000 available for tips. - ➤ Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich on Friday released his proposed $7.7 billion budget for fiscal year 2026 that calls for a 3.5% property tax increase to support schools—public hearings are scheduled for April 7th and 8th with a council vote set by June 1st. WTOP
- ➤ The Maryland Equitable Justice Collaborative released a more detailed report on Thursday that builds on its December recommendations to end racial disparities in the criminal justice system—highlighting proposals such as parole reform and changes to traffic stops, with several measures now under review by lawmakers before the legislative crossover date. Lawmakers have taken up some of these ideas, though many decisions remain pending as the session advances. WTOP
