- ➤ At a council committee meeting Friday, Montgomery County Public Schools officials reported a 2% decrease in serious incidents compared to last year but said drug use including vaping is rising. The district will install vape sensors in every high school bathroom next month—upgrade entry doors by the start of the new school year and revise its attendance policy to better inform families. - ➤ Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich proposed a 3.5% property tax rate increase on March 14th to fund MCPS’s $3.65 billion budget request as part of his $7.6 billion operating budget plan for fiscal year 2026—if approved by the County Council, homeowners will see about $1.06 added for each $100 of assessed value. The proposal aims to support local schools while keeping the tax rate lower than in neighboring counties. MoCo360
