ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Einstein High School in Kensington was cleared after smoke from a malfunctioning HVAC unit led to one adult being taken to hospital (her condition was not life-threatening) and classes resumed shortly.  Montgomery Community Media

CRIME NEWS

  • Montgomery County police drones found a missing 5-year-old near Pennydog Court in Silver Spring and helped arrest six suspects involved in theft incidents at Thayer Avenue and the Nike store on Arlington Road in Bethesda on March 13, 2025.  Montgomery Community Media
  • Detectives from Montgomery County arrested 20-year-old Roniyah Thomas on March 13 for attempted murder and attempted carjacking stemming from a February incident in Chevy Chase—where a man was shot after resisting demands for his car keys—and she remains in custody awaiting a bond hearing.  Montgomery Community Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At a council committee meeting Friday, Montgomery County Public Schools officials reported a 2% decrease in serious incidents compared to last year but said drug use including vaping is rising. The district will install vape sensors in every high school bathroom next month—upgrade entry doors by the start of the new school year and revise its attendance policy to better inform families.  Montgomery Community Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich proposed a 3.5% property tax rate increase on March 14th to fund MCPS’s $3.65 billion budget request as part of his $7.6 billion operating budget plan for fiscal year 2026—if approved by the County Council, homeowners will see about $1.06 added for each $100 of assessed value. The proposal aims to support local schools while keeping the tax rate lower than in neighboring counties.  MoCo360
  • A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order that directs 18 agencies to reinstate fired federal probationary employees by 1 p.m. on Monday, March 17—following a push by Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown to block mass layoffs that could harm workers and the local economy.  WJLA
