CULTURE NEWS

  • At Einstein High in Kensington, over 200 students will perform In the Heights — a Tony Award-winning musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda that celebrates Latino culture and community pride, with shows scheduled from March 13–21 at 11135 Newport Mill Road.  MoCo360
  • Eyes to the Skies previews March’s space events for local stargazers, featuring a total lunar eclipse today at 6:38 a.m., daylight saving time on March 8, and the vernal equinox on March 20. The series offers simple viewing tips (local guidance included).  WTOP
  • Zainab Azizi, a Montgomery County native and Northwest High School alum, produced the horror thriller Send Help, which released in January, and recently discussed filming challenges and her local roots in Bethesda. She also expressed hope that Maryland will offer stronger tax credits for film productions (supporting emerging filmmakers).  MoCo360

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bethesda Chevy Chase High, Magruder High, and Seneca Valley High began piloting an AI program that uses school cameras & flags fights, medical emergencies, and weapons for staff review on Monday. The system does not record audio or use facial recognition and protects privacy by avoiding classrooms or restrooms.  WUSA9
  • Christopher Williams, a Potomac native, is performing science experiments on the space station. He uses his physics and medical training from local schools (including Montgomery Blair High) to study how microgravity affects the human body and is scheduled to return later this summer.  WTOP

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials are working to repair a collapsed pipe that released millions of gallons of sewage into the Potomac after residents met with DC Water (operator of the pipeline) at Walt Whitman High School. Emergency repairs will finish mid-March.  Montgomery Community Media

  • Montgomery County leaders hosted an open house Monday at 6 p.m. at the Sidney Kramer Upcounty Regional Services Center – residents shared views on planned trash and recycling service improvements.  WUSA9

  • Monumental Sports Network will broadcast the 53rd Hoop Culture Capital Classic on April 4 at Capital One Arena, starting at 10:30 a.m. with the DMV Girls All-Star Game & ending at noon with the Boys Capital Classic Game, featuring local & national high school players.  WUSA9
