EDUCATION NEWS

  • MCPS recommended moving Wootton High School into the new Crown High and adjusting boundaries for Woodward and Damascus, and community members in Rockville voiced concern about the changes (saying the process lacks transparency) during recent virtual hearings ahead of the school board vote on March 26.  MoCo360
  • Burtonsville Elementary held its first Living Wax Museum on Feb. 27 to celebrate Black History Month, as fifth graders portrayed influential figures in science, arts, and politics (using creative storytelling) to educate peers and staff about historic contributions.  Montgomery County Public Schools

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Maryland oyster watermen are seeking government relief as sewage from the Potomac disrupts their harvest. Local officials will review the situation to support the affected operations.  WUSA9
  • More than 150 residents met with DC Water & county and state officials at Walt Whitman High School on Thursday night to question plans after a January sewage spill from an aging pipeline; officials said repairs will finish by mid-March and further rehabilitation work will follow.  MoCo360
  • MCPS Superintendent Thomas Taylor sent a letter on Feb. 20 to officials instructing them not to offer legal or operational advice to staff during immigration enforcement stops, to keep everyone safe. Councilmember Kristin Mink said she will continue holding information sessions under MCPS protocols.  MoCo360

  • Montgomery County Public Schools boys basketball playoffs began Friday as teams competed in Germantown, Bethesda, and Rockville. Key matchups featured Northwest High School hosting Clarksburg and Albert Einstein playing Richard Montgomery in Rockville, with winners set to face advancing opponents next.  MoCo360
  • Montgomery County Public Schools girls basketball playoffs began Friday and continue today with games in Germantown, Silver Spring, Rockville, and Sandy Spring. Local teams will advance to face opponents with first-round byes as fans follow the updates on the scoreboard.  MoCo360
