- ➤ Musician Daryl Davis has persuaded over 200 individuals to quit hate groups through decades of dialogue & outreach. Known as the Klan Whisperer, he continues to share his story and foster unity in our local community. WJLA
- ➤ The Montgomery County Department of Recreation is collecting new and gently-used prom attire for students in need at the Marilyn J. Praisner Community Recreation Center (in Burtonsville) ahead of its fifth annual Prom Couture Closet event in April; donations will be accepted during regular business hours. MoCo360
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools begins a 30-day pilot of VOLT AI on March 2 at three high schools, including Magruder, Bethesda-Chevy Chase, and Seneca Valley. The tool uses current cameras to flag emergencies without facial recognition or audio recording, while local parents ask to see the contract agreement. WJLA
- ➤ On Feb. 24, the Montgomery County school board tentatively approved a $3.79B operating budget for fiscal year 2027 at a meeting in Rockville, including revised staffing and funding changes for special education, + the plan now heads to County Executive Elrich for review before reaching the County Council next month. - ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools ended varsity-level girls gymnastics because of declining participation and rising costs, leaving a long-running program behind. Gymnastics instructor Paula Shaibani (representing community frustration) presented a petition with over 1,000 signatures at a Rockville board meeting on Feb. 24. MoCo360

- ➤ Ramp metering signals are now live on 16 northbound I-270 ramps in Frederick and Montgomery counties as part of the I-270 Innovative Congestion Management Project and may cut morning commute times by up to 30 minutes today. WUSA9
- ➤ Montgomery County approved the 294-acre Viva White Oak Development District with its first Tax Increment Financing plan near the FDA campus for a $2.8 billion project that includes commercial + residential, retail, and a life science center. - ➤ DC Water will hold a meeting tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria at Whitman High School (7100 Whittier Blvd.) in Bethesda to explain repair plans after a collapsed sewer line spilled 300 million gallons of wastewater into the Potomac River last month. MoCo360
