- ➤ A sprinkler pipe ruptured on Friday, Jan. 30 at the 17th floor of Alexander House Apartments (8560 Second Avenue) in Silver Spring, causing water to flow to the basement and displace at least 166 units; multiple county agencies responded with no injuries reported. WJLA

- ➤ Political consultant Brett Di Resta raised $9,291 for the District 3 school board seat, more than double Sally McCarthy's $4,481, according to the state elections board report filed Jan. 14. His biggest donor was attorney Jonathan Zimmerman of Bethesda (who gave $1,500). MoCo360

- ➤ Montgomery County taxi rates will increase from $2 per mile to $2.50 per mile & add a $1 nighttime surcharge for trips from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning tomorrow, as the change aims to maintain service viability and attract drivers while the Call-n-Ride program continues offering subsidies to riders.
