  • WTOP’s Snowzilla 2026 Contest ended at 5 p.m. Friday when Rockville native Joanna D. correctly guessed Reagan National Airport’s 6.9-inch snow total during a winter storm that dropped 6 to 12 inches across the area; she won a custom-made D.C.   • On Wednesday, Educational Systems FCU donated two 2019 Ford Transit Connect vans to Montgomery County Students Automotive Trades Foundation to support high school students in refurbishing and reselling vehicles as part of their hands-on automotive training program + offering a real-world mini dealership experience.  WUSA9
  • MCPS is planning to hire a program audit coordinator to broaden its review beyond financials — the role will cover programmatic issues and address county council concerns — as part of the proposed fiscal 2027 budget plan with an annual salary of $171,000.  MoCo360
  • Montgomery County Public Schools remained closed Wednesday and Thursday after officials deemed that incomplete snow clearing on 230 school sites left many roads and bus stops unsafe for travel + residents noted unplowed streets.  WTOP

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • DC Water reported that no sanitary sewer overflows have escaped from the damaged Potomac Interceptor since the Jan. 19 collapse—marking progress with bypass pumps, excavation, and cleaning. Crews will begin removing debris from the pipe today while researchers continue testing nearby waters.  WUSA9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • WSSC Water crews are busy fixing more than 40 water main breaks caused by cold weather lowering the Potomac River — residents are urged to report leaks immediately to help speed repairs in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.  WTOP
