BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Honeygrow, a fast-casual chain, is set to open its second Montgomery County location this summer at the Shoppes of Burnt Mill in Silver Spring, at 10741 Columbia Pike & the eatery will replace the former California Tortilla site. MoCo360
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Diamond Elementary School was named one of the 2025-2026 Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools and celebrated the honor on January 9 with a school event that highlighted its commitment to academic excellence. Montgomery County Public Schools
- ➤ Brenda Wolff, a Montgomery County School Board member who has served since 2018, will finish her term in December and is not seeking reelection to allow for new ideas and more family time — she has worked to secure equal education support for District 5. Montgomery Community Media
- ➤ MBLI asked the county board for more time to address special education and enrollment problems after a recommendation to close the charter school. The board will decide on the matter on Thursday, Jan. 22 in Germantown — the school had recently moved from its temporary Bethesda location. MoCo360
- ➤ MCPS flagged 22 employees during a rescreening of nearly 10,600 background checks—two had disqualifying charges and 20 had concerning CPS findings. The school board tentatively approved a draft policy on check procedures on Thursday, and it is open for public comment. MoCo360
- ➤ Five high school seniors from Montgomery County Public Schools were named among 300 scholars for the 2026 Regeneron Science Talent Search — each earning a $2,000 award and matching school prize.
