About this event

(Durham) Express Flow @ 702 9th St Durham NC If you’re looking to reset your body and mind in under an hour, this class offers a calm yet focused way to do it. This moderately-paced class begins with a brief seated or lying meditation, followed by feel-good stretches to wake up the body. Then we’ll move into a steady, flowing warm-up to build focus and strength. After a short series of standing and balancing poses, we'll wind down with a little core work, deeper stretches, and a guided relaxation. The class closes with a final meditation to leave you centered and clear. All levels are welcome to this balanced practice that combines movement and stillness to support strength, calm, and clarity. Why the same class type can feel different when taught by different teachers: It’s our mission to ensure yoga is accessible and meets your needs! Each Yoga District teacher has their own way of teaching yoga, so we recommend trying a variety of class types with a variety of teachers. With so many options, you're bound to find a teacher and class type that work for you! Here's what to expect in the beginning, middle and end of class: Classes usually start with a series of "grounding", stabilizing movements. This can help you reconnect your mind with your body, while connecting the pace of body movements to the breath. Then the class usually transitions to more warming, strengthening, engaging poses. Toward the end of class you may find poses that focus on flexibility and release. Class usually ends with a final relaxation in "savasana" pose, during which you can lay quietly in stillness to let go. This combination of practices can help you achieve what some refer to as the goal of yoga: awareness of interconnectivity and oneness, bringing about a compassionate way of being. By signing up for this class you are agreeing to our wellness policy: If you have any symptoms that could be COVID you agree to not join a studio-based class. If you are sneezing, sniffling, or coughing due to allergies you agree to wear a mask throughout your time in studio. Please arrive at least five minutes before the start of class as doors lock at the start of class for security. If you need our support, please text/call 202-265-YOGA.
