About this event
Fundamentals of Ballet I – Prerequisite: completed Intro to Ballet and/or less than one year of prior training in Ballet or other Concert Dance style Designed for dancers with at least six months of previous training or those who have completed our Intro to Ballet series, this class builds the bridge between basic principles and fluid movement. While exercises remain focused at the barre to ensure proper alignment, the curriculum expands to include more varied movements and the introduction of simple combinations. This class deepens your technical foundation through barre and centre exercises, targeted stretching, and core strengthening, all while further developing your dance vocabulary and spatial awareness. It is the ideal next step for the novice dancer ready to build their confidence and transition from isolated positions to foundational ballet technique. After 1 to 2 years of regular training at this level, dancers should feel ready to progress to Fundamentals II. Additional skills covered: 5 positions of the feet 5 positions of the arms 1st and 3rd(both arms front) arabesques Progressing to using one hand on the barre Croisé Spotting and Pirouette Preparation Pas de Bourrée under and over Triplets and Balancés Polonaise Sautés, Échappés Glissades, Assemblés Petit jetés, Pas de chat 6 movements of dancing: bending(plier), stretching(etendre), rising(relever), Sliding (glisser), jumping(sauter), turning(tourner) Class etiquette: standing at the barre, setting up in the centre, going across the floor
